What we eat can have a powerful effect on how we feel—both physically and emotionally. A 2023 meta-analysis found that diets rich in whole foods, fruits, vegetables, and omega-3 fatty acids helped reduce symptoms of depression (Firth et al., 2023). In contrast, diets high in processed foods and refined sugars were linked to an increased risk of low mood.
At Discover Counseling and Consulting, LLC in Maitland, FL, we understand that mental health is best supported by caring for the whole person. Our counselors help clients explore how small changes—like adding colorful fruits and vegetables or swapping processed snacks for whole grains—can boost mood and overall well-being.
